Hall CUs

IMG_2404.JPG

At Bristol University Christian Union we aim to be a community of God's people who share the gospel with others. One way in which we do this is by gathering as the Christian Union within halls of residence. A hall CU would typically meet once a week in or near to halls, to equip and encourage one another to live and speak for Jesus in halls, by studying the Bible, praying and chatting together. Evangelistic 'Go-Week' events are also periodically organised and run in these hall CUs, as another means to share the gospel with friends in halls.

Dom Kemp Hi, I’m Dom, I’m a 2nd year Engineering Design and I’m one of the Hall CU reps for for Badock along with Ashlea. I found Hall CU a great way to meet support and be encouraged by other christians who are living in halls, particularly after the huge change of starting uni. It’s a great way to get stuck into God’s word especially if its for the first time, and reach out to other people in halls in ‘Go Weeks’. In my free time I love playing frisbee, kayaking and exploring Bristol’s coffee shops. I’m really excited to meet you all come September. drop me a line or an email If you have any questions at: lz18310@bristol.ac.uk or 07887380399.

Joanna Chedgey Hi, I'm Joanna (most people call me JoJo) and I study French. Bristol is such a great place to live as a student- I personally am such a fan of the coffee and charity shops here. Coming to uni as a Christian can be a real challenge but I found getting stuck into my hall CU on top of church a huge encouragement to know I wasn't the only Christian where I was living. I'm super excited to be co-leading Churchill's hall CU this year with Katie and can't wait to meet you all and see what God has planned for us as a hall CU as we study the Bible, pray and have a fun together! If you have any questions about hall CUs or uni life in general feel free to contact me at el18409@bristol.ac.uk .

Katie Bottomley Hi, I'm Katie and I'm leading Churchill's Hall CU with JoJo this year. I'm studying dentistry and so far the highlight of my course has been giving my friends rides up and down on the dental chair. I'm excited for Hall CU because I've really enjoyed the bible studies and events this year, although I didn't know any answers in the Stoke Bishop CU pub quiz! Most of all I'm looking forward to seeing what Jesus does in halls next year - if you want to message me, my email is jx18700@bristol.ac.uk .

Durdham

Lizzie Standring Hi, I’m Lizzie and I will be leading Durdham Hall CU with Thea! I study history of art and in my free time I love vintage shopping and finding bargains in charity shops. I have found being a part of a hall CU really encouraging this year! It’s so great to know and be encouraged by other Christians in halls! We usually meet on Wednesday evening to chat, eat heaps of junk food and also to read the bible. It doesn’t matter if you have just become a Christian or have been for a while, we would love it if you came along. It’s also a great opportunity to invite friends to come too- there’s no pressure to talk or pray if you don’t want to. So looking forward to meeting you in September. If you have any questions about uni life, hall CU or anything else please do email me at: ly18763@bristol.ac.uk , or Facebook message me :))

Morwenna Peer Hiya! I'm Morwenna and I study French and Spanish. I'm one of the hall CU leaders for Hiatt Baker this year alongside the wonderful Amy. My favourite thing to do in Bristol is to while away the time on a sunny afternoon on the downs - that's if I'm not trying to remember how to conjugate obscure French verbs. After joining a bit later in first year, I found hall CU became super important for me to learn more about God, grow my faith through the highs and lows of uni and meet an amazing and supportive group of students that I'm now blessed to count as friends. Hall CU is great if you want to delve a lil deeper into what the bible is all about, if you find bigger CU meetings a bit intimidating or if you want to cop yourself some free cookies (we get through a lot of them!). Any qs just hit me up at fz18886@bristol.ac.uk or find me on facebook, excited to meet you!

I would love to hear from you if you have any questions, or even if you just want to say hello! My email is zl18875@bristol.ac.uk .

University Hall (UH)

Florrie Born Heeeey folks, I’m Florrie and I’ll be one of the hall reps for University Hall this year. I study English and so will often be found lugging an absurdly large anthology around with me. When I’m not pawing through Renaissance playwrights I’m most likely to be found roasting chickpeas, surfing/wallowing in the sea or just spending as much time as humanly possible outside and most definitely dancing. I’m buzzing to be back in Hall CU this year as Hall meetings were such a comfort for me throughout first year. I loved having a ready-made unit so close to home who were sharing the same experiences as me in the weird and wonderful world of UH. But, above all, it was seriously so great to be able to open up God’s Word together every week and pray in all that we were learning, encouraging each other in that too. Ben and I would love to see you around so please don’t hesitate to drop me an email ( xo18400@bristol.ac.uk ) to chat more or just tag along at any time, you’re always welcome!

Wills Hall

Alex Chow Hi, I'm Alex and I'm a second year biologist at the University of Bristol. My interests include football, gym, running, birdwatching, photography and relaxing by watching films and reading books, as well as Biology obviously! When I first came to university in freshers' week I didn't know what to expect, therefore if you have any questions especially during freshers week, feel free to talk to me. I also really recommend getting stuck in with a local church and both the main and hall CUs, both of which I have found to be invaluable as a Christian during my first year of university. Hall CU was really useful for me in keeping my focus on Christ throughout the year and helping me through difficult situations I faced by hearing from God's Word and through prayer. It also provided an excellent evangelistic opportunity, equipping me to share the Gospel with my friends and coursemates. This year I'm going to be a CU hall rep for Wills Hall alongside Katie, and I can't wait to meet you all and see all that God has in store for us next year as a hall group! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at qq18741@bristol.ac.uk .

I really enjoyed my hall CU last year, as it was just another place to connect with some really great people and feel supported in your faith while in halls which can be a little daunting at times. I really look forward to meeting with you all!

Northwell House

Fennie Yap Heya! My name is Fennie and I am so pumped to lead the Northwell House hall CU this year! When I started at here last year, hall CU played a massive role in my first few months when I was getting used to life at UoB, and helped me to keep my eyes on the Lord through thick and thin. I study Maths and Philosophy and love violining, biking in the sun and homemade flapjacks! Email me here xc15542@bristol.ac.uk if you have any questions about university, the city or Northwell House (BEST HALLS). I'd love to hear from you!

Kemi Talabi Hiya I'm Kemi Talabi, I'm a 2nd year maths and philosophy student at the University of Bristol and I'm so excited to be one of your hall CU leaders for the next year. My interests include cooking, reading and singing. If you have any questions about university or just want to have a general chat feel free to email me at Ig18562@bristol.ac.uk . God bless
