Hall Groups

IMG_2404.JPG

At Bristol University Christian Union we aim to give every student at the University of Bristol the opportunity to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ. One way in which we do this is by having hall groups. A hall group typically meets once a week in or near to halls, to equip and encourage one another to live and speak for Jesus in halls, by studying the Bible, praying and chatting together. Evangelistic 'Go-Week' events are organised periodically and run in these hall groups, as another means to share the gospel with friends in halls.

David Noble Hello! I’m David, and I’m studying Physics. I was in Badock for my first year and I’m now leading Badock hall group with Ellie. Hall CU really helped me settle into university and find other Christians in Badock. If you’ve been a Christian for ages or you haven’t been to church in your life, you’re welcome to come along to Hall CU. We’ll be meeting at 5:30pm on Wednesdays. If you have any questions about CU or Badock email me at dn17391@my.bristol.ac.uk

Ellie Pekris I’m Ellie, I study Accounting and Finance and will be one of the Badock Hall CU leaders next year. I moved to the UK from abroad when I started uni so settling in was a bit of a struggle for me but I can honestly say hall group was such a big part of my transition into uni life and meeting a wider group of Christians from a variety of different backgrounds. I’m so excited to see what God has planned for hall group next year and cannot wait to get to know everyone! Email me at ep17321@my.bristol.ac.uk if you have any questions at all or just want to introduce yourself!

Churchill

Tim Bodey I’m Tim and I’m a History Student, originally from the proud dales of Yorkshire, I migrated to Churchill Hall last year. Growing up in the rural beauty of Nidderdale, I had little option but to go outdoors, so spend far to much time cycling. I found first year a great time to learn more about my relationship with God, and what this means in practice. Hall Group is here to help you live out your faith by telling others about it and supporting you in struggles that you face at uni. In the words of Sainsbury’s “every little helps”, and so hall group isn’t instead of Church, but it’s to help you in between. Really looking forward to getting to know you, and if you’re worried about anything to do with uni, or if you think this bio was rubbish and you want to know more about me, don’t hesitate to email! tb17907@my.bristol.ac.uk

Hello! My name is May, and I am studying medicine. My hobbies include playing tennis, and singing in the shower! Tim and I both lived in Churchill as freshers, and will be leading its Hall Group this year. Whether or not you’ve opened a bible before, we are here to explore God’s word with you, pray together, and run a few evangelistic evenings too. I found Hall Group was a great way to make new friends who love Jesus as much as I do! Starting university as a Christian can feel a bit daunting, so don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions: md17250@my.bristol.ac.uk .

Clifton Hill House

Katy Roberts Hi I'm Katy and I'm excited to be running the hall group in Clifton Hill House this year. I study medicine and I loved being in CHH in first year- it's so great to live in Clifton! Hall group CU is an excellent chance to meet up with others in halls to read the Bible together and encourage each other. Whether you're a Christian already or just curious, we'd love to meet you! Please do get in touch: kr17316@my.bristol.ac.uk

Ben Eggleston Hello, my name is Ben Eggleston and I’m a Hall Rep in CHH for 2018-19! I’m a second-year Geography student, so let me know if you need any help colouring in: some of my other interests are travelling (gap yah!), politics and Model UN society. I lived in CHH last year and it’s a really welcoming hall with great facilities, full of amazing people. Hall group was a fantastic part of first year; it was super casual and friendly and helps in both Bible study as well as in being a place to meet people. We want to be an active part of Hall life and I’m sure we can create another great community like we had last year, with opportunities for socials, evangelism, Bible study and prayer. I’m really looking forward to this year: whether you’re a committed Christian or just interested in asking ‘religious’ questions, everyone is welcome. Feel free to contact me at be17897@bristol.ac.uk and I’ll happily chat about Hall group or anything else!

Deborah Henney Hi! My name is Deborah, I study religion and theology and I'm one of the hall reps for CHH this year alongside Katy and Ben. Hall CU this last year has been an amazing opportunity to get to know other Christians and study the Bible with them. I am involved with international student work and will aim to make the hall CU as friendly and welcoming to everyone as possible. I'm really excited to meet you all and to get stuck into God's word! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions- my email address is dh17599@my.bristol.ac.uk .

Durdham

Anna Dean Hi! I’m Anna and I study Biochemistry – I’ll be with you for Durdham CU this year! Don’t be put off by the false reputation of Durdham being dead: you’ll honestly have the best time! Hall CU will be a great place to encourage and equip one another to live for Jesus at university (which can be quite daunting at times!) through bible study, prayer and evangelistic events. In my free time I love going for coffee in cute cafes and playing Ultimate Frisbee! If you have any questions about Durdham CU or university life in general drop me a text on 07583575724 or email me at ad17494@bristol.ac.uk . I’m so excited to see you in September!

Markus Standen Hello, my name’s Markus and I study Chemical Physics at the University of Bristol. I’m from Ilford in East London but Durdham Hall has been my home for the past year. I’ll also be repping Hall group in Durdham this year, which will be a fantastic opportunity to just meet up, chill and read the Bible together as fellow Christians. But it doesn’t matter whether you’re the Archbishop of Canterbury or someone with no concept of who Jesus was and what he did, you are more than welcome to come along and find out. I found that our weekly meetings were a highlight of my week: Diving into scripture together, encouraging each other at uni, supporting one another in prayer and eating some tasty snacks! That’s a top class Wednesday evening. I enjoy football (COYI), pizza, beer, good company, playing saxophone and long walks on the beach. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at ms17037@my.bristol.ac.uk .

Goldney & Hillside Woodside

Naomi Brown Hi, I’m Naomi! I study French, German and Italian (yes, you can do three languages, and no, I don’t know what I’m doing for my year abroad…) and I’m one of the Christian Union Leaders for Goldney. Hall Group CU was a wonderful way for me to connect with other Christians in halls in first year which I spent in Clifton Hill House, as well as to get involved with the wider CU events. Not only have we opened God’s word together each week, but we also had time for discussion, sharing prayer requests and just generally chilling out! I look forward to continuing this in Goldney, as well as reaching out to others in Halls who may want to investigate the Christian faith, through socials and ‘Go Week’ events. Any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch on nb17463@my.bristol.ac.uk . I look forward to meeting you soon!

I’m a 2nd year Cellular and Molecular Medicine Student and enjoy spending my free time fencing & skiing. I lived in Goldney last year and found Hall Group a great way to meet other Christians. It also provided a nice small group of friendly faces to do bible study with. I look forward to visiting the lovely Goldney grounds again and getting to know you all in the coming year. Do contact me at timothy.armistead@yahoo.co.uk .

Hiatt Baker

Francis Stanford Hi, I’m Francis, I’m a Chemical Physicist and I’m one of the Hall reps for Hiatt Baker along with Nathan and Elsbeth.  Hall CU is such a great way to meet with other christians particularly when it can be quite a big experience starting out at uni.  It’s a great way to encourage one another and get stuck in to God’s Word and massively helped me with talking about who Jesus is with my friends. I also love my sport (rowing, cricket, rugby), music and theatre and massively into good food too, so drop me a line - 07503780047 or fs17317@my.bristol.ac.uk if you have any questions and I would love to get to know you over some quality grub! See you in September.

Esther McNeil Hi I’m Esther and I study Maths and Philosophy. I’ve lived in Durdham for my first year but I’m so excited to be helping to lead the Orbital hall group this year! In my free time I love being part of an orchestra, playing ultimate frisbee and exploring some of Bristol’s many coffee shops. Wherever you’re at in your faith, hall CU provides a great place to make friends, explore the Bible and be intentional about talking to your friends in halls about Jesus. It’s so great that you’ve chosen Bristol and I’m looking forward to meeting you soon! If you have any questions or just fancy getting in touch please add me on Facebook or drop me an email at esthermcneil@icloud.com

Nellie Sudworth Hiya! My name is Nellie, and I am so excited to be a hall rep for Orbital this year. I study English and absolutely love it - I am always up for a literary debate! - and I am often to be found either reading or chatting away to friends in one of Bristol's many glorious coffee shops. The biblical call to social justice is a huge passion of mine, so I am also heavily involved in Bristol's Just Love society. My first year was spent in Badock, and as incredible as it was, I'm really looking forward to exploring a new set of halls and meeting a wonderful new group of people. Coming to uni is a huge change, and can be such a daunting prospect; getting involved with your Hall CU group is such a fantastic way to quickly find a new family. So looking forward to meeting the new orbital lot, to begin our year of getting to know one another, exploring God's word, and growing with one another in faith! Please feel free to contact me whenever at fs17893@my.bristol.ac.uk

Hall CU is a great place to catch up with your friends, have some snacks and study God's word together. I have really loved it as a fresher.

Whether you are a Christian or just want to know more about the Bible and Christianity, please do come along- it would be class to see you there!

If you have any questions or want to find out more please feel free to email me: jm17507@my.bristol.ac.uk.

Riverside

Christine Yong Hi, My name is Christine and I am one of the reps for Riverside this year (although I lived in Orchard Heights during my first year). I came from Hong Kong to the UK to study Law and have enjoyed living in the city of Bristol. Bristol is an amazing place to live in, being the perfect size to live but also where you can focus and have good community. Additionally, being a part of hall groups is extremely rewarding with the new friends that you get to meet and the way you grow in fellowship. Being a part of Hall groups was amazing and I hope that next year’s freshers will enjoy it as much as I did. and I look forward to seeing you guys at Riverside 2018-2019! Feel free to email me at christineyong1317@gmail.com

Jack Rust Hey, I’m Jack, I’m now in second year studying Veterinary Medicine. Bristol is awesome, there’s so much to see and going on, and Riverside Halls is right in the middle of it all. I loved last year in the Rackhay and am really excited to be one of the CU hall group leaders at Riverside this coming year. Being a Christian at Uni can be pretty hard at times but also amazing, hall groups is really encouraging and a boost to have a group of friends to read the Bible, pray and have fun with, learning more about God. Really excited to see how God will be at work in Riverside in the year to come, would love if you were able to make it, if you have any questions about hall groups or Uni life please don’t hesitate to email jr17807@my.bristol.ac.uk – more than happy to help if I can. Hope to see you soon!!

University Hall (UH)

Abi Wiltshire Hi my name is Abi and I’m studying biology. UH wasn’t my first choice accommodation but living there this year has been amazing and the vibes are great so don’t listen to the haters! I genuinely think it is one of the best places to live and going to UH CU was one of the highlights of my year. It’s great to meet up with like minded Christians weekly and read up on God’s word to encourage each other. My leaders last year were an amazing support for starting uni life so I hope we can be that for you as well! It’s so chilled so don’t be nervous about coming and I’m excited to meet you all! My email is aw17650@my.bristol.ac.uk

Georgina McNair Hi, my name is Georgina and I’m currently from North London however when I’m not at home, I am a resident of University Hall (UH). I believe once you have looked past the cramped conditions and lack of facilities, you will realise UH is the best place live! I especially loved our UH hall group, it was a such a good opportunity to meet up every week with other Christians to enjoy sharing God’s word. While also praying together and carrying out different mission work to encourage non-Christians to learn more about our faith. My experience in first year has drawn me closer to the Lord and I’m excited to see how our Saviour uses UH next year! I can’t wait to meet you all, email me with any questions: gm17147@my.bristol.ac.uk .

Wills Hall

Nathan Rees Hello all, and welcome to Wills Hall! My name is Nathan and I’m one of the Hall’s Christian Union group leaders. I was in Wills last year and have returned for my second year. I’m studying Classics (Greek & Latin – yes, I’m that modern). Other interests of mine lie in reading for pleasure and taking part in quizzes. I am looking forward to meeting many of you soon and looking in depth at what the Bible has to say in our studies each Wednesday, together, whether you’d call yourself a Christian or are merely intrigued about the Christian faith and want to find out more about Jesus. University is such a wonderful time to be able to explore and learn things about all aspects of life and I am excited to be able to serve you this year in this respect. If you’d like to find out more, message me on Facebook or email at rees.nathan2@sky.com
