Hall Groups

IMG_2404.JPG

At Bristol University Christian Union we aim to be a community of God's people at work. One way in which we do this is by having hallgroups. A typical evening with your hallgroup would involve eating a meal together at someone's home and then going through a bible study which seeks to equip you to better share the Gospel with your friends. This would be followed up by praying for each other in our various situations.

Robert Grinyer I’m Robert. I study chemistry here at Bristol and am one of the Badock Hall leaders, though I have been at Wills in my first year.  For me, Hall CU was a really good way to get connected with the main CU when I first arrived. I built some great friendships through the weekly bible study, and really appreciated it as an environment when I could be open and honest.  I’m looking forward to my year helping lead a Hall CU, particularly getting to know people and putting into practice what it means to be missional around friends and flatmates. If you have any questions, find me on Facebook or pop me an email at robertgrinyer189@gmail.com – I’ll do my best to answer them!

Ellie Ward I’m Ellie, I study Psychology, and my favourite area of this field is Forensics! I am in Durdham Hall, but will be Hall Repping for Badock next year. This year I’ve really enjoyed building relationship with people in our Hall CU, exploring the Bible together. So, looking forward to next year, I am also excited for this, as well as reaching out to people through social events and Go weeks, keeping God at the centre. Feel free to get in touch, my email is ew16878@my.bristol.ac.uk.

Issy Williams Hey, I'm Issy and I'm in Goldney Hall for my first year. Home for me is Suffolk, so a bit of a trek down to Bristol but so worth it! Having become a Christian in my first couple of weeks in Bristol, I've really valued the communities of CU, Christ Church in Clifton, and of course my hall group in Goldney. Hall CU during first year has been amazing, and I've made some really great friends through it! I'm so grateful for the wisdom and friendships it's provided, and I'm super excited to be a hall CU leader myself next year for Badock so I can pass on all the great stuff I've received! Be sure to come along, you can count on my quality baking skills as well as Jesus - everybody wins! If you have any questions, my email address is iw16789@my.bristol.ac.uk

Abi Baker Hi I’m Abi and I study Veterinary Medicine. I think cows and elephants are cool and love to travel! I live by the sea in Kent and the time of year does not phase me when it comes to swimming in it! I lived in Churchill as a fresher and am looking forward to leading hall group at Churchill this year. Hall group is a great reminder that God is not contained in a church but is everywhere including where we live and it is our mission to show to others the love of Jesus. I am excited to see what God has got planned for Churchill this year. Feel free to contact me (abib97@hotmail.co.uk) if you are interested in joining Churchill Hall group or just want to find out more!

Tom Pentland I’m Tom, I’ve lived in Churchill hall for the past year, and I’m excited to now be leading Churchill hall group along with Abi. We’re looking forward to welcome week, a time where we can get to know students that have recently moved into halls.I’m reading mathematics at Bristol and, while it takes an invested effort, I have found plenty of time to get stuck in with the life of the Christian Union. As a Christian, I find the forgiveness of sins and relationship found in Jesus Christ too good not to share! That’s why we spend time during the week as a hall group, engaging with God’s word and praying for each other, that we may better share the Gospel with those around us. When I’m not crunching numbers, I enjoy playing the clarinet with the wind orchestra or having a throw about with a frisbee on the Downs. If you have any questions, or would like to get in touch, feel free to drop me an email: tp16990@my.bristol.ac.uk

Stephen Nurse Hello! I am Steve, and I am studying Music and French. Halls Christian Union can be one of the major stepping stones for a Christian settling into university, or a welcoming environment for someone new to Christianity to discover their faith. This year Clifton Hill House/Queen’s Road CU will be led by Naomi Havell and me. Being a Christian at Uni can feel lonely whilst in a crowd of unfamiliar faces, but Naomi and I strive to be approachable, friendly, familiar faces. CU will also be a reminder that God is always with you, and that you needn’t feel alone. We look forward to meeting you all, and to a vibrant, exciting year with the CU. sn16846@my.bristol.ac.uk

Goldney & Hillside Woodside

Hannah Chandler Hi, my names Hannah! I study Engineering Mathematics and I was living in Goldney Hall last year. Goldney Hall & HSWS Christian Union is a little community that meets in the week to read the bible, encourage and support each other throughout the year. What I loved about hall group was that I developed really close friendships with the people in it and that I always knew I had someone to meet with if I needed advice or just a chat. It also encouraged me so much in being able to tell others about Jesus! I’m excited for this next year and the great things God will do in Goldney & HSWS! Get in touch if you want to know more: hc16953@my.bristol.ac.uk

Dan Reid Hi, I’m Dan. I study Liberal Arts, which means I spend half my time pretending I know what’s going on, and half my time explaining what it is to everyone else (seriously, just Google it). But that’s ok, because I know God is in control and knows exactly what is going on. I have been living in marvellous Manor Hall but will be helping out at glorious Goldney with the hall group there. Hall group has been such a great way to meet other Christians in halls and encourage and support each other in our walks with Jesus. It’s so cool to walk around halls and just to know you’re not alone! I can’t wait for a good excuse to explore Goldney, and to see what amazing works God has in store for us there. Feel free to email if you have any questions: dr16567@my.bristol.ac.uk

Ellie Howard Hi, I'm Ellie, I study neuroscience, and I'm one of the hall CU reps for Manor Hall this year. I've loved living in Manor, and hall group has been so great, I really enjoyed spending time with the other Christians in manor and having meals together as a group (highlights included a pizza night and fajitas!). We also did Dial a donut in halls to try and share the gospel with as many people in halls as we could, which was a really fun night. I'm so excited for next year to get to know the new people living in Manor and spend time with you guys, especially cooking and eating together, as well as supporting you guys with whatever happens in your time at Manor! If you have any questions, ask them! My email is eh16859@my.bristol.ac.uk

Orbital

Keziah Cooper Hey! I’m Keziah, from the little-known Northwell House – part of the Orbital group. It has been my lifelong ambition to own a lava lamp (and yet I still don’t have one). CU hall groups has been my introduction to evangelism, and as quite a quiet person being guided through has been so helpful to me. It’s going to be great carrying on reaching out to the students around us, and enabling people like you to do the same! If you want to know more, get in touch, my email is kc16490@my.bristol.ac.uk

Ethan Taylor My name is Ethan Taylor, and as for who I am, I’m a Civil Engineering student.During my first year I lived in New Bridewell, emphasis on NEW because we were the first to live in it. I really enjoyed meeting with our hall group reps to read through the Bible and share testimonies of how God was influencing our lives, and the lives of others. Evangelism/ outreach was always exciting too. Sharing the good news about Jesus in new and inventive ways was really fun, and what’s more is that we were able to touch the lives of so many people. I’m really excited about the new year and being a hall group leader because I love the truth, and I love talking about it too. I love the Bible and I love God, so what a privilege it is for myself and Keziah (your other hall group leader) to share this joy with you. My prayer for this year is that everyone in the hall group can come to a deeper, and more meaningful, relationship with our Saviour, Jesus. I am jealous for God’s glory, nothing deserves more praise or credit than Him and so I hope that as a result of the hall group sessions we might all become living monuments to His glory. I look forward to glorifying God with you this coming year. Feel free to email me: et16700@my.bristol.ac.uk

Riverside

Luke Jamieson I came to Bristol in Autumn 2016 to study Mechanical Engineering, having spent most of my time prior to that growing up in Yorkshire. I’m partial to a bit of Football, Formula 1, Mountain Biking and sweet potatoes. I lived in Manor Hall in my first year, but will be repping for the Riverside Halls in 2017/18. Hall CUs can be the place where the gospel takes root in a Hall of Residence, and that’s why I’m so amped to help run them this coming year. In 2017-18, I am really looking forward to seeing all different types of people come face to face with the shocking (and rather unbelievable) truth of Jesus in an age of post-truth and alternative facts. Drop me an email on luke.jamieson@outlook.com

Megan Saunders Hi I’m Megan and I’m a Theatre and German Student. I’m a hall rep for Riverside this year (Not biased, but Waverley is the best). Hall CUs are great because it can feel daunting if you are the only Christian in your flat or on your floor, but meeting up and praying/ doing a Bible study together is so encouraging and important. I'm excited to see how God is going to use Riversiders this year! If you want to get in touch, my email is ms16219@my.bristol.ac.uk

University Hall (UH)

Eli Downie Hello, my name is Eli Downie and I will be with you in University Hall CU. UH is honestly amazing, don’t be put off by the obviously substandard shantytown-esque facilities - you’ll learn to survive and will have the time of your life here! UH CU was one of the best bits of my first year - it’s really good to be able to meetup every week with other Christians, read the bible and encourage each other. I can’t wait to meet you guys, and if you have any questions please email me at elinordownie@hotmail.com , or add me on Facebook. See you in freshers!!

Arran Willott Hello! My name is Arran and I study medicine. I was raised in Nottingham and am defiant that the midlands is neither in the North or the South and refuse to be forced to pick a side! In my free time I enjoy climbing, cycling, hiking and just generally exploring the great outdoors. I also did a gap yah and will not hesitate to tell you about it. I lived in UH during my first year and absolutely loved it. The prison-like exterior and cramped kitchens are a small inconvenience compared to the great sense of community (also its cheap). I loved UH hall group, and really enjoyed getting to know the great group of people that came along. Now that I’m leading it, I’m really excited to meet a whole new bunch of people and to help them to live out their faith at university. My email is arran.willott@gmail.com and I would love to hear from you if you have any questions about the CU, UH, our hall group, medicine, Bristol or anything else you can think of. Please do feel free to get in touch. Looking forward to meeting you!

My email is arran.willott@gmail.com and I would love to hear from you if you have any questions about the CU, UH, our hall group, medicine, Bristol or anything else you can think of. Please do feel free to get in touch. Looking forward to meeting you!

Wills Hall

Edward Aldous Hello all, and welcome to Wills Hall! My name is Edward Aldous and I am leading the Hall Christian Union this year. I was in Wills last year, and now am in my second year, studying Physics. Other interests of mine lie in sport and music (big fan of jazz). I am looking forward to meeting many of you soon and looking in depth at what the Bible has to say in our studies each Wednesday, together, whether you’d call yourself a Christian or are merely intrigued about the Christian faith and want to find out more about Jesus. University is such a wonderful time to be able to explore and learn things about all aspects of life and I am excited to be able to serve you this year in this respect. If you’d like to find out more, message me on Facebook or email at eblaldous@outlook.com.

Matilda McEvedy Hi, I’m Tilda. I’ll be repping for Wills, though I lived in Manor Hall first year. I’m doing my degree in History of Art and have spent this year hopping between Clifton coffee shops and galleries. CU was such a great opportunity to meet and read the bible with friends in Halls, building really strong relationships with people that, in turn, have helped me grow in my own faith. I’m excited to do the same this year, while getting to organise events that might spread God’s love to more Bristol students. Feel free to get in touch: matildamcevedy@hotmail.com

Abi Triggs Hi there. My name is Abi and I am one of the hall group leaders at Wills. Hall CU has been a great opportunity this year to be part of a fun community that has encouraged, challenged and supported each other through reading the Bible and has spread Jesus’s love to people in halls. I can’t wait to see how God will use Wills CU hall group next year for His glory. If you want to know more, my email is abigailtriggs@ymail.com
